Legendary former WTA player Martina Navratilova admitted that Jannik Sinner does seem like the best player in the world right now, given his success at the 2024 Miami Open.
Much has been talked about Sinner's year so far. The Italian didn't have the best off-season, but he's certainly been tremendous on the courts, basically outshining everybody else so far.
He won the Australian Open, he won the Rotterdam Open, and he played pretty well at Indian Wells until he met Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard is the only player that has beaten him so far this year, and that just shows how good he has been.
His start to 2024 is similar to some iconic starts made by members of the Big Three, and it's always good to be in the same sentence as them. That created a lot of chatter about who the best player in the world was right now, and for Martina Navratilova, it's Sinner.
When speaking to the Tennis Channel, she did note that Novak Djokovic hasn't played much this year, so in his absence and with Alcaraz playing a bit up and down, Sinner does seem like the best right now.
"Well, Novak Djokovic is not playing unfortunately for us and yes he's been the most consistent. His average day is beetter than anyboy else's at the moment. He's taken it to a whole new level. He doesn't have to red-line anything to win matches so that gives you a lot of confidence."— Navratilova on Sinner in 2024 <br>
It's only been three months of the season, so it's hard to judge based on this sample size. He's been the best so far, but that can obviously change. There are a few players who play on a similar level, and who is better among them depends largely on form. Right now, he's ahead, and his most recent title just proves that.
