Carlos Alcaraz will sooner or later play at the Laver Cup and Roger Federer admitted after the event that he tried to bring him this year.

The number one spot is currently held by Carlos Alcaraz, who attained it following this year's US Open. He won the championship by defeating Casper Ruud, the second-ranked player in the world, in the final. Alcaraz was pursued by Federer to play this year's Laver Cup but the Spaniard was forced to decline because he felt there might be a little too much tennis in a short period of time.

"We tried to bring Alcaraz to the Laver Cup this year, but he said: 'Look, it could be a little too much'. Hopefully he will play next year."

He embraced this viewpoint after experiencing the impact of fatigue in a few events leading up to the US Open. After all, only a few days after winning the US Open, he sacrificed his body for Spain in the Davis Cup,. Playing the Laver Cup on top of that would have been harmful. His updated schedule for the remainder of the year has already been made public, with Paris and the ATP Finals serving as his top priorities.

His next event should be the ATP 500 event in Astana in October.
