Nick Kyrgios continued his tremendous 2022 season with some stellar tennis at the Citi Open in Washington, leaving former top player Kim Clijsters stunned at what he showed.
Kyrgios is enjoying what is arguably the best season of his career so far. Making his maiden Grand Slam final at Wimbledon certainly makes this his most memorable one, but even generally, he’s just played on a level that hasn’t really been seen from him before.
He’s always had the potential to achieve similar results but has never really done it before this year. What’s surprising even more is that he’s been relatively consistent.
As the season continues, Kyrgios continues to play well, too. The proof of that is how the most recent event went, and it was a double trophy for the Australian. He won both the singles and doubles trophies at the Citi Open in Washington, firmly announcing himself as one of the contenders for the US Open.
As crazy as that sounds, it’s not that unthinkable because he’s just played that well. With the way he can serve, Kyrgios will certainly be a problem for anybody at the US Open, and he proved at Wimbledon that he can make a deep run at a Grand Slam.
He even seems motivated, which only makes it more likely because motivation is always the question mark with him. Former top WTA player Kim Clijsters was certainly amazed by what she saw at the Citi Open, remarking that she can’t wait to see what he can do at the US Open.

The courts in Washington and New York play somewhat similarly, so he can certainly do some damage, and the rest of the field will have to watch out.
