Serena Williams has garnered a long list of tennis accomplishments, but she's now making a name for herself outside the tennis landscape.

It was recently revealed by Ken Goldin, who is the founder of Goldin Auctions, which is a famous collectible marketplace that deals with buying and selling of sports and pop culture memorabilia, that Serena has set a new record in that department.

A signed 2003 NetPro rookie card of the 23-time Grand Slam champion sold for $266,400 on Saturday night. Never before has a trading card featuring a female athlete commanded such a figure.

According to a report by the Atheltic, Williams has surpassed the previous record for a trading card by more than double. Moreover, she beat herself for the record!

In January, a bidder purchased a July 1999 SI For Kids Serena Williams rookie card for close to $117,000. In March, another card of the 40-year-old tennis legend from that same set sold for close to $100,000 on eBay.

Williams is currently on a tennis hiatus. She played her last tournament at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, where she retired after only six games in the first set of her opening match against Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

She was carrying a thigh and ankle injury going into that match and required off-court medical treatment. Williams would not continue and made a tearful exit.

But she is determined to return to action this season and doesn't want the last memory of her tennis career to be the sight of herself throwing in the towel. Williams has rubbished retirement rumors and has hinted at a possible comeback at this year's Wimbledon.

In the event she returns to the Tour this summer, she will be without the services of French coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who is now working with one of her rivals, Simona Halep.
