The 2024 Moselle Open is one of the final two ATP 250 tournaments on this year's calendar, and the prize money has been unveiled.
First played in 2003, the Moselle Open in Metz is played in an atmospheric indoor hardcourt arena each year. Former Australian Open runner-up Arnaud Clement won the first iteration of the tournament.
Throughout its history, several notable winners have won the tournament. The most high-profile was Novak Djokovic, who won the first ATP Tour hardcourt title of his career in 2006.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Gael Monfils, and Hubert Hurkacz are some of the other men who have claimed the title. Richard Gasquet, who recently announced his retirement, was a runner-up at the event in 2004.
Ugo Humbert is the defending Moselle Open champion. His run to the title last year was particularly special because the 26-year-old was born in Metz. Many in the crowd were emotional after one of their own won his home title.
The 2024 Moselle Open could be crucial in deciding who qualifies for the ATP Finals. That depends on results in tournaments before then, but how players perform at the Moselle Open and Belgrade Open, which are played during the same week, could decide the final spots.
Casper Ruud, one of the players on this year's Moselle Open entry list, is among those trying to qualify for the year-end tournament. The possibility of needing more points to qualify is probably why the Norwegian is on the entry list.
The 2024 Moselle Open champion will receive 250 ranking points for being the best player of the week and have a healthy €88,125 of the total prize money pot of €579,320 added to their bank account.
Losing a final on the ATP or WTA Tour is always tough for any player. However, whoever is in that position will still collect 165 ranking points and €51,400 for the impressive achievement of being the runner-up.
Italian veteran Fabio Fognini and five-time Grand Slam doubles champion Pierre-Hugues Herbert were the two defeated semifinalists at the 2023 Moselle Open. Fognini was thrashed 0-6, 2-6 by the eventual champion Humbert.
The two players who fall in the semifinals will be presented with 100 points and €30,220. That should be ample incentive for players to try and win a few rounds, even though there may be some fatigue at this last stage of the season.
Lorenzo Sonego, Karen Khachanov, Harold Mayot, and Luca Van Assche were the beaten quarterfinalists last year. 50 ranking points and €17,510 are on offer for the four men who replicate that achievement this year.
25 ranking points and €10,165 will be awarded to those who reach the round of 16. Players who lose in the opening round are set to receive €6,215 but will not be given any ranking points.
Holger Rune, who made another change to his coaching team, and Matteo Berrettini are some of the players who have signed up for what promises to be a superb tournament at the 2024 Moselle Open.
