After getting injured at the 2022 Indian Wells, Rafael Nadal returned to practice after four weeks but is still uncertain about playing the 2022 Madrid Open.

The 12-time Barcelona Open champion, Rafael Nadal, has already withdrawn from the tournament, where he succeeded so many times in the past. Now, another question is if he will play in the 2022 Madrid Open, where he also lifted trophies last time in 2017.

Starting the season undefeated for 20 matches, Nadal will attempt to win his 22nd Grand Slam title at the 2022 Roland Garros. On the other hand, at the same tournament, Novak Djokovic will try to stop the Spaniard from winning the title and hope to level his record.

Both players are currently facing a difficult situation as Djokovic didn't play during the majority of the season, and Nadal got injured just recently. They will both try to play as many tournaments as possible ahead of the second Grand Slam of the season, and there is a possibility that they will meet in Madrid.

The ATP 1000 tournament in the Spanish capital may be crucial for both in preparation for the French Open, and if they met in Madrid, it would probably make it even better for both, knowing how far their closest rival is ahead of the second major of the season.

Only a few weeks before the tournament is set to start, Rafael Nadal's former coach and uncle, Toni Nadal, confirmed that Rafa should arrive at Madrid Open to asses if he is able to play in the tournament or not.

"He told me yes, that he would arrive. Then, we'll see. Yesterday he started training and he still has 15 days left to see how everything evolves. If he arrives in good condition, he will play."
