It was confirmed by the Spaniard's team that Rafael Nadal will not take part in the 2022 Barcelona Open.
The 21-time Grand Slam champion had a stunning start to the 2022 season when he won 20 out of 21 matches he played. But in his last match, the injury prevented him from remaining undefeated as well as continuing his great run.
Therefore, Rafael Nadal was forced to take some time off the ATP Tour and recover from the rib injury. Now, it's known that he will skip the Barcelona Open, where he was very successful in the past.
Only a few days ago, he received a trophy for winning 21 Grand Slam titles as the first man ever, but Nadal's title ambitions will need to be put on hold for the upcoming weeks, as he doesn't seem to be ready to compete.
Nadal triumphed in Barcelona in 2005 for the first time and collected a total of 12 titles until 2021. Now, his team, released a statement to Reuters, in which they announced that the Spaniard won't compete at the 2022 Barcelona Open.
"Rafa has just been withdrawn from the entry list in Barcelona. We don't know yet when he will be at his first tournament on clay this year. Hopefully, soon."
Right now, it will be important for the 21-time Grand Slam champion to focus on recovery, as he certainly wants to win his 22nd major at the 2022 Roland Garros. It may be difficult for him to do that injured, especially with very motivated Novak Djokovic and upcoming star Carlos Alcaraz in the draw.
For now, the return date for the Spanish King of Clay is not known, as his team didn't want to disclose anything right now, but as they said to Reuters, it's going to be "hopefully soon."
