Former World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has explained how Wimbledon is always there for him when he needs a boost in confidence.
A title at SW19 has historically come when Djokovic most needs a big title, most notably in 2018 after two years without a major, and then again this year following an acrimonious start to the season.
The 7-time champion defeated Australian Nick Kyrgios in the Wimbledon final this summer, and was speaking to the press ahead of the final regular tour event of the year - the Paris Masters - when he revealed his affection for the green grass of south-west London.
"Wimbledon, I mean, always comes at the right time in my career when I need that huge confidence boost and big title, Wimbledon is always there. That obviously was a huge also relief I think with everything that has happened this season", said Djokovic.
The 9-time Australian Open champion went on to explain the importance of regaining his confidence after such a controversial start to the tennis year in Melbourne, a saga that ended in the Serb's deportation.
"You know, the first part of the year with everything that has happened in Australia, I felt, you know, just challenged, very much emotionally, mentally off the court, and was affecting my game," Djokovic said, adding, "I was kind of finding my way to that desired level of tennis, and that happened, I think, towards the end of the clay season I start to play really well."
Djokovic will be looking to continue the form he found at Wimbledon in Paris this week as he eyes a strong finish to a year that has contained many ups and downs.
However, he will likely need to be at his scintillating best to take the title, as the Paris Masters has one of the strongest fields on the ATP Tour this season.
