Novak Djokovic made more tennis history after opening his 2022 Wimbledon title defense with a convincing four-set win.

Djokovic navigated a tricky contest against South Korea's Soonwoo Kwon to record his 80th match win at the All England Club. He has become the first tennis player to win 80 or more matches at each Grand Slam event.

It's a remarkable achievement when you consider that this is the most competitive era in men's tennis because Djokovic has faced stiff competition from Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal throughout his legendary career.

He has now usurped them both to this landmark because no single tennis player, male or female, has done it before. Nadal has recorded an unrivaled 112 match wins at the Roland Garros, but he doesn't have 80 victories at any of the other Grand Slams.

On the other hand, Federer has 102 wins at the Australian Open, 105 at Wimbledon, and 89 at the US Open. He is slightly behind by at least seven more wins at Roland Garros, and it doesn't look like he will conquer this record.

By contrast, Djokovic has an 82-8 record at the Australian Open, his most successful major. He's won the title there nine times and will be able to add to that number next year when he returns following his controversial deportation.

The Serb is 85-16 at the French Open and has won the title on two occasions. He's 81-13 at the US Open where he has lifted the title three times.

Speaking after the match, Djokovic admitted that it feels good to have achieved such a milestone, joking that 100 wins at each is the next goal. And who would dare put it past him to crack the centurion number?

"Now we have got to 80, let's get to 100."
