Taylor Fritz doesn't seem to be the biggest fan of pickleball, despite appearing on the pickleball court recently.
Fritz started well at the Miami Open this year, beating Emilio Nava 6-4, 6-1. The 25-year-old player impressed with his second-round performance, and after the match, he sat down with Prakash Amritraj on the Tennis Channel.
Amritraj often knows a lot about what the tennis players do away from the tennis courts, so he didn't miss the fact that Fritz was recently seen on a pickleball court.
That's why the American player was asked about whether he had attempted to practice this fast-growing sport that has already managed to attract some tennis players.
"You looked pretty good on the pickleball court. My question is, have you put in much time on the pickleball court?"
Fritz is one of the more honest players on the ATP Tour, and he didn't hide anything when answering the question about pickleball either.
According to the ATP World No. 10 player, pickleball is a much easier sport than tennis, which is why it doesn't interest him so much. Instead, he likes to play golf, which is a sport that many tennis players enjoy doing recreationally.
"No disrespect to pickleball players, but pickleball’s way easier. Once you understand the rules and what to do, it’s an easy transition with tennis. I’ll play here and there, but (I have) golf and other stuff that I like to do."
Many current and former tennis players have recently appeared on the pickleball court. For example, John Isner and Jack Sock signed up to compete in an event.
However, it's clear that Fritz plans to stick to tennis. In the third round of the Miami Open, the American player will take on Denis Shapovalov, who might prove to be a good test.
