Nick Kyrgios has a truly unique style, and even though the Australian is often criticised for his on-court behaviour, Mats Wilander expressed worry about kids copying his game style.

The 2022 Australian Open doubles champion, Nick Kyrgios, is one of the biggest stars of Australian tennis, and therefore, it's natural that many kids want to be like him. While many often discuss if he doesn't have a bad influence on the kids due to his arguments with umpires and breaking rackets, Mats Wilander addressed another problem.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion, Mats Wilander, spoke about the way that Kyrgios hits the ball and the negative influence it might have on the kids that try to copy it. In a recent talk, he revealed that according to Lleyton Hewitt, the kids in Australia copy Kyrgios.

"I do know from Lleyton Hewitt telling me that every kid in Australia basically, is doing what Nick Kyrgios does. I’m not saying they’re throwing rackets and whatever, but they hit the ball like Nick Kyrgios."

Analyzing his play style further, Wilander said that Kyrgios uses only his arm to "slap" the ball, as he doesn't use his feet enough to get to the ball. That's something that the former Swedish ATP player wouldn't like the kids to copy.

"And that’s kind of bad enough in a way because Nick is so talented, but he doesn’t use his feet at all in any of his shots. He just slaps it with his arm. And they look up to these guys. So I think it’s atrocious."

At this stage of his career, Kyrgios certainly won't change his play style, and he probably also shouldn't, as it seems to be bringing him a lot of success on the tennis court. Most recently, the Australian reached the semifinals of the 2022 Houston Open.
