Milos Raonic is playing some vintage tennis at the 2024 Rotterdam Open, but what can he do against the hottest player on the ATP Tour right now, Jannik Sinner?
The Italian has been cruising through the draw of the Rotterdam Open, the first event he played since his Australian Open win, but his next match will present a unique challenge.
Raonic is not an unfamiliar profile for Sinner, as he played a couple of players like that in his career, but he's certainly the type of player that may present a unique challenge.
The Canadian is far from his best, but he's put together a really solid week in Rotterdam, making his way to the quarter-final thanks to his serve. The slower conditions allow him to get many slow balls back, which is generally favorable for him.
The forehand isn't blitzing as it once was, but, in combination with the serve, it can give a lot of discomfort to Sinner. The Italian's win over Gael Monfils was a practice for this type of matchup, so let's see what happens here.
Head-to-head:
Sinner never faced Raonic, as his rise came at a time when the Canadian was away from tennis due to injuries. He did see players like him in the past, and he'll know what the deal is.
In rallies, the Canadian has no shot. Not even prime Raonic would have been able to do much damage against this Sinner, but the serve can be powerful.
If he can hit it often enough and be clinical when the slower ball comes, he'll have a shot at keeping it very close. As good as Sinner is, he can still have those odd minutes when he tries to do too much.

Prediction:
Sinner has been very good at returning serves in recent months, so he'll have a very good chance here. He only needs to take a few break chances, and he'll use one of them. Even if he doesn't get I don't fear for him in the tiebreak either.
Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in two sets.
