Jannik Sinner vs Alex de Minaur: 2024 Rotterdam Open - Preview & Prediction

by Zachary Wimer

Jannik Sinner is still undefeated in 2024, but best believe that Alex de Minaur will try to end that streak in the Rotterdam Open final.

De Minaur has been playing pretty solid tennis for a while now. He had some notable results last year and looked set to make a step forward this year. Runs like the one at the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam certainly prove he has the capability to make the finals.

Now, it's all about winning them, which is always a problem. Everything is rather well known with Sinner. He recently launched himself into the top of tennis by winning the Australian Open.

He's on the verge of entering the Top 3 and has positioned himself nicely for a battle for number one spot so far. He's still undefeated and could capture a second trophy this year.

Head-to-head:

Sinner and de Minaur played quite a few times so far in their career. The Australian has yet to beat the Italian once in those matches, which shows a serious matchup problem for him. It kind of makes sense when we compare the way they play.

De Minaur is a speedy player who relies on his speed to make it impossible for opponents to really outplay him from the baseline. Sinner was mostly a very aggressive baseliner, but in recent months, he demonstrated patience in the way he approached matchups.

He minimized errors and started to choose his spots far better. That's what allowed him to cruise past de Minaur in recent matchups easily. He leads 6-0 overall but dominated the last matches far easier than those before.

Prediction:

All things considered and the way they performed in recent months, anything but a win for Sinner would be a huge surprise. He nearly won the event last year against Daniil Medvedev in the final, so I think he will finally get it done this time around.

Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in two sets.
