The Rio Open will take centre stage in South America from February 19th as the stars of men's tennis make their annual visit to Brazil.
The draw for the 2024 edition has been revealed. Aside from exploring the carnival atmosphere, ATP players will have the chance to compete for huge prize money and an ATP 500 title. All the top eight seeds at this tournament are ranked in the Top 40, led by World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz.
The 2022 champion will look to bounce back from his shocking defeat to Nicolas Jarry in Buenos Aires. Alcaraz doesn't have the luxury of a bye and will, therefore, begin his campaign in the first round against home wild card Thiago Monteiro.
Stan Wawrinka features in the same section as Alcaraz and will play Facundo Diaz Acosta on his Rio debut. The top seed could meet Francisco Cerundolo in the semis, but it is unlikely that Argentina's No. 1 will reach there after an inconsistent start to the Golden Swing.
Cerundolo plays a qualifier to start his adventure and then will draw one of Juan Pablo Varillas or Albert Ramos Vinolas. Still in the top half, Serbia's Laslo Djere plays Bernabe Zapata Miralles. The winner of that match will face either Dusan Lajovic or Daniel Elahi Galan.
In the bottom half, Nicolas Jarry looks like the favorite to go far in Rio, but how much gas does he have left in the tank after his long week in Buenos Aires? We will find out when he plays Yannick Hanfmann in the first round.
The tall Chilean is projected to meet Arthur Fils in the quarterfinal. But the Frenchman has an interesting challenge against fellow teenager and one of Brazil's talented youngsters, Joao Fonseca, who has been handed a main draw wild card.
Second seed Cameron Norrie is the defending champion and faces a rankings slide if he cannot retain his title. The Briton has a tough opener against Bolivia's finest, Hugo Dellien. Austria's Sebastian Ofner lurks in his section of the draw. The complete draw for the Rio Open can be seen below.
