After his third-round win at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters, Alexander Zverev spoke about his aggressive style as he finds it difficult to win big titles without it.

Alexander Zverev is doing quite well at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters so far when he reached the quarterfinal, something he failed to do in the last two editions of the ATP 1000 tournament in Monaco after he reached the semifinals in 2018.

His next opponent will be young Italian Jannik Sinner, and after his third-round match, the second-seeded Zverev highlighted the importance of aggressivity, especially on the clay courts.

"For the second clay-court match of the season, I can't complain too much. Yes, I have lost focus a little bit in the second set, but at the end of the day, he's somebody that can really play. I'm happy with a two-set win."

While not being aggressive can win matches, that's not what Zverev wants to do. He wants to win tournaments, and not only some tournaments, but Grand Slams, and ATP Masters 1000, and to do that, he needs to be aggressive.

"To win the biggest tournaments in the world, like Masters series, like Grand Slams, you have to be aggressive. I'm not going to win big titles just by pushing the ball."

Another important aspect of the winning mentality is confidence, and every win on the clay helps to build it. Zverev knows how important it is for him to have confidence, especially on his serve, with which he struggled every now and then in the past, but not in Monte Carlo.

"It's great, because especially on a clay court, especially here where it's a little bit slower I think than other clay courts that we play on, it is very important to get that confidence going on your serve. All around, it's important to get these kinds of wins."
