After Novak Djokovic's departure, Alexander Zverev remains the highest-seeded player in the draw of the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters after a solid win.

Alexander Zverev didn't enjoy much success at the Monte-Carlo Masters when he lost in the third round in 2019 and 2021. Now, the 24-year-old German started the tournament as second-seeded and faced Federico Delbonis in the second round after receiving a bye in the first round.

Initially, Zverev was projected to meet the top-seeded Novak Djokovic in the final of the tournament, but after the Serbian lost in the second round, the draw opened up. But the German isn't the only one trying to use that to his advantage, as Stefanos Tsitsipas will also aim to defend his title in Monte Carlo.

In his second-round match at the first ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season, Zverev showed his qualities. After Delbonis won his first game on the serve, Zverev started showing that he really wanted to go further this year and put up a very good performance in the first set when he won 6-1 in just 24 minutes.

In the second set, however, the Argentinian player got an early 2-0 lead and also led 4-2 and had a breakpoint in the seventh game of the second set, getting close to forcing a decider against the second seed.

Exactly at that point in the match, Zverev would go on to win 11 points in a row and grab a 5-4 lead to later finish the match after yet another break and win it 6-1, 7-5 in an hour and 27 minutes to book his third-round spot.

In the next round, the world number 3 will meet Pablo Carreno-Busta from Spain as he got through after Alexander Bublik retired in the third set of their second-round clash in Monaco.
