The draw for the 2024 Davis Cup Qualifiers was released by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) on Sunday.
The 2024 Davis Cup will be the 112th edition of the oldest tennis team competition and will begin in earnest with the qualifiers in the first week of February. Twelve ties will be played across three days, starting on February 2, 2024.
After an agonizing semifinal defeat to Italy in the 2023 edition, Serbia will begin their quest to win a second title against Slovakia. Novak Djokovic lost his proud 12-year unbeaten run at the tournament against Jannik Sinner, but he'll most certainly be welcomed into the team should he become available.
Alexander Zverev's Germany lost to Switzerland in the qualifying round last time out. And they have a tricky tie against Hungary which boasts the the talent of Fabian Marozsan and the evergreen Marton Fucsovics. The Swiss, meanwhile, will play the Netherlands, one of the quarterinalists in 2023.
2022 Davis Cup champions Canada are the top seeds in the qualifying round next year and will face Korea Republic, while two-time champions Croatia will Belgium. The Czech Republic lost heartbreakingly to Australia in the 2023 quarterfinals, they'll be looking to return to the Final 8 again.
Jiri Lehecka & Co. will take on minnows Israel, who sensationally defeated Japan in World Group I in September. One of the surprise packages of the 2023 tournament was Finland who reached a first-ever semifinal at the Davis Cup. They'll be fancied to advance into the Finals again when they face Portugal.
There is an interesting South American tie pitting Chile against Peru, while the USA who suffered an ignominious group-stage exit in the 2023 Finals, will look for a response when they face Ukraine. Rising star Ben Shelton will be waiting on the wings for his call up into the team.
Argentina will face an Alexander Bublik-led Kazakhstan while the fourth South American nation in the qualifiers, Brazil, will lock horns with seven-time champions Sweden.
