Djokovic Breaks Record For Number Of Semifinals At Masters 1000 Events

Many consider Novak Djokovic to be the greatest player of all time and he has broken yet another record to strengthen that case further.

Djokovic's tally of 24 Grand Slams and more than 400 weeks at No. 1 are unmatched records in the men's game. Yet, the Serbian still divides opinion at times with his actions despite his incredible achievements.

A recent example was at this week's Monte-Carlo Masters, when Djokovic was orchestrating the crowd booing him during his match against Lorenzo Musetti. Some criticized the 36-year-old for this, while others felt he was provoked and a reaction was deserved.

Djokovic has insisted that he does not look for trouble when he steps out on the court. However, it does seem like he fires himself up in a positive way at times when he responds to the crowd during matches.

Nothing was able to stop Djokovic from beating Alex de Minaur to progress to the semifinal at this year's Monte-Carlo Masters. That victory was the one that led to him setting another record on the ATP Tour.

Djokovic has now reached 77 semifinals at Masters 1000 events, which is now a record that stands alone. He has overtaken his great rival Rafael Nadal, who was at the top with Djokovic with 76 semifinal appearances.

Roger Federer, who could become a Laver Cup captain, is in third place with 66 semifinals. Andy Murray is in fourth place with 33 semifinals, which is a reminder to tennis fans of how good he was in his prime despite being a long way behind the other three.

The incredible number of semifinals reached by Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer shows how they have dominated the sport for so long. But it is Djokovic who has gone slightly ahead of the other two once again, which is a tribute to his incredible longevity.
