Carlos Alcaraz vs Nicolas Jarry: 2024 Argentina Open Buenos Aires - Preview & Prediction

by Zachary Wimer

Carlos Alcaraz has been unchallenged at the 2024 Argentina Open so far, but how will he fare against Nicolas Jarry?

Alcaraz and Jarry are both strong clay players, which is particularly true for the Chilean. He plays his best tennis on clay but also during this part of the calendar. He's won events in the past in South America and is looking pretty solid once again.

He got a bit lucky in the previous round as his opponent, Tomas Martin Etcheverry, ran into some physical troubles, having to retire from the match. Alcaraz cruised in his match comfortably and is looking every bit like the champion he became at last year's event.

Head-to-head:

When it comes to this specific matchup, we saw two matches played last year. The first one happened at the Rio Open, and the Spaniard barely survived. Jarry was playing an amazing match and nearly beat Alcaraz, who survived the match but ended up losing in the final to Cameron Norrie.

The second match was played at Wimbledon, and Alcaraz won that one too, but once again, Jarry was able to win one set. It's pretty clear that while the 20-year-old manages to win this matchup most of the time, the Chilean plays him pretty close.

Carlos Alcaraz Nicolas Jarry
2 H2H 0
2 Rank 21
20 Age 28
4-1 2024 W/L 4-3
159-44 Career W/L 99-90

Prediction:

There are a few things that could happen here. I don't really see Jarry winning the match because I think he's not playing that well at the moment. Certainly not as good as he did last year.

Alcaraz isn't playing spectacular tennis either, but I think, at the moment, he's simply able to find something more to win the match.

I find the Spaniard more likely to win because he has more weapons and is likely to find his best tennis when it matters.

Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in two sets.
