Andy Murray will be playing for Great Britain at the Davis Cup Finals from September 13th until 18th in front of home fans in Glasgow.
Despite not the best form recently, Andy Murray will represent his country for the first time since 2019. Previously, the Great Britain's coach, Leon Smith stated that he won't pick the former world number 1 just because of his status.
“(It's not just the) problem and difficult decision around who gets to play on each match-day - in the two singles and the doubles - even just picking the squad takes a lot of thought. I've got relationships in varying ways with all of the players. I go a long way back with Andy, in particular, but my job is to look at it objectively and to do whatever I can to win,“ said Smith.
After the selection was announced, the experienced Scot stated: “It’s always special playing in a Davis Cup tie in front of a home crowd,” said Murray. "Some of the best moments of my career have come representing my country in the Davis Cup, so to be a part of the team again means a lot."
Also British no. 1, Cameron Norrie commented on the fact that Murray will help the team in Glasgow: "Having Andy in the team of course is a real boost. Both him and Dan were here in 2015 when we went on to win the competition and having that experience is really important, but it also drives the rest of us to get there as well."
