Alexander Zverev hopes to start his 2024 Miami Open campaign with a win and to do that; he will need to overcome Felix Auger-Aliassime.
This is an interesting matchup on paper, especially on a court that isn't an indoor hard court. Zverev has an interesting history at the Miami Open, making the final in the city many years ago, but since then hasn't really been able to achieve a similar result.
Auger-Alissime has a similar story in the sense that he used to play better at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Miami in the past. The last few runs were pretty bad by his standards, but that's a general trend with his career, which stalled a bit after a quick breakout.
Both looked pretty decent recently, so let's see who might do better in this really interesting second-round matchup.
Head-to-head:
They played against each other a lot of times. When it comes to the ATP matches strictly, the German has looked better, with a 5-2 record overall. If we add exhibition matches to the mix, then the lead goes up to 7-3, so it's generally been Zverev who has had the upper hand.
None of that should be surprising when we consider the playstyles. Zverev walls the Canadian pretty well, and the only way for Auger-Aliassime to beat him is to hit through him. That's tricky because his hitting is not stable at all.
Alexander Zverev | Felix Auger-Aliassime | |
---|---|---|
5 | H2H | 2 |
5 | Rank | 36 |
26 | Age | 23 |
14-5 | 2024 W/L | 8-7 |
408-182 | Career W/L | 191-129 |
Prediction:
The German is the overwhelming favorite here because I think he'll be able to use his serve to his advantage. It should give him a lot of free points and, more importantly, prevent his opponent from finding any kind of rhythm.
Auger-Aliassime can serve well as well, but I think Zverev will be able to overcome that.
Prediction: Alexander Zverev to win in two sets.
