Despite not being a huge fan of the current Davis Cup format, Alexander Zverev is going to play for Germany at the 2024 Davis Cup Qualifiers.
Alexander Zverev was on the record about this Davis Cup format not being the true Davis Cup that he grew up watching and loving. Of course, he's not the only one who has said that or something similar and of course, he's right.
The format is vastly different, taking out what many perceive as the core of the event. Like it or not, it's the official format, and in spite of that, he'll be taking part. He signed up to play for Germany at the upcoming Davis Cup qualifiers, which will be played in the first week of February.
It's not an ideal timing as it comes up immediately after the Australian Open which could be a problem if he makes a deep run. The German is playing really well right now, and some do expect him to do well at the tournament.
He's by far the biggest name in the German team but there are other great players alongside him. There is Jan Lennard Struff who was amazing last year but has since cooled off considerably.
He also dealt with injuries, which certainly didn't help. Besides that, there are doubles experts Tim Puetz and Kevin Krawietz, who can certainly do a lot of damage in the doubles.
Overall, it's just a pretty well-balanced team, but most will be expected from Zverev, who will play mostly the singles matches. Hopefully, it will go better than the last time he played the qualifiers, which was in 2023.
He didn't play well and lost to Marc-Andrea Huesler, but it was just after he returned from injury, and he's by far in better condition right now, and will surely want to qualify his country for the events Finals.
