Carlos Alcaraz got to that level where people simply assume that he will win every match, but he won't, and he knows he can't
It's a very interesting time in Alcaraz's career right now because he's struggling and not finding any solutions for his struggles. Part of those struggles is just the expectations that he set earlier in his career.
He was so good so soon that people started expecting him to win every match. Something similar happened with Iga Swiatek when she had that absurd 30+ match winning streak.
It became something people expected out of her, and when she had an objectively worse year, the year after the streak, people panicked.
In reality, she had a better year because she still dominated all her rivals, who played far better that year than the year before, and she still handled it. Regarding Alcaraz, he recognized those high expectations he had set after his most recent loss at the Argentina Open and talked about it.
"It is true that expectations are generated in me in the tournaments where I go... maybe people think that I have to win every match, but Jarry has a level that can beat anyone."
One thing that Alcaraz was visibly disappointed by was the way he handled the match. There are some obvious things that haven't changed since last year, and that needs to improve. He needs to improve as a player, and he hopes to do that for the rest of the year.
"It's a shame to see that I haven't improved some things in my concentration since 2023. There's no other way, it's something pending, and my level of play is based on the level of attitude and energy I'm in. The year is still very long, many things can still happen, and we will see how it goes on."
