The 2024 Qatar Open will be the 32nd edition of this tournament and will be held as an ATP 250 event for the last time ahead of an upgrade to a 500 category in 2025.
Held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in the country's capital Doha, the Qatar Open will serve as part of a doubleheader on the ATP's long tradition of the Middle East swing. It will run from February 19th to 24th.
The entry list for this year's edition has been released, clearing all doubt about the rumored involvement of 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal, who will return to action after his short-lived stay in Australia was curtailed by a new muscle injury to the hip.
Nadal pulled out from the 2024 Australian Open without hinting at his return date, but he remains upbeat to recover ahead of schedule. He will use a Protected Ranking to play just his second ATP tournament in the past year.
The top seed, however, will be Russia's Daniil Medvedev, who is the defending champion. Andy Murray, the vanquished finalist from last year, is also set to make his comeback and will seek a third title in Doha, tying retired Roger Federer for most titles in these parts.
Second seed Andrey Rublev is one of four former champions in the main draw. All the top three seeds at the tournament are Russians, with Medvedev, Rublev, and Karen Khachanov occupying those spots.
There is a formidable trio of heavy hitters outside those aforementioned at the top. Jan-Lennard Struff, Alexander Bublik, and Alexei Popyrin are perennial threats on fast hard courts and could pose a danger to any of the top seeds.
Czech teenager Jakub Mensik is a Next Gen entrant at this ATP tournament. The 18-year-old had a fine run from qualifying at this year's Australian Open, shocking former Top 10 player Denis Shapovalov for his third Grand Slam main draw win.
Three players will be expected to receive wild cards in the days leading to the tournament, while up to four players will have to battle their way into the main draw through the qualifying rounds. The complete entry list for the 2024 Qatar Open can be accessed below.
