The 2024 Cincinnati Open is right around the corner, and the draw for the ATP Masters 1000 tournament has been revealed.
The ATP 1000 tournament in Cincinnati runs from August 12th to 19th, and while the defending champion, Novak Djokovic, won't play in Cincinnati, the draw is still stacked with many great players, including last year's finalist Carlos Alcaraz.
The Spaniard will be the second seed this year, and his part of the draw is really brutal. Like all top eight seeded players, he has a first-round BYE, but in the second round of the tournament, he will take on the winner of the match between Gael Monfils and Alexei Popyrin.
On top of that, should the 2024 Paris Olympics silver medalist make it to the third round, he could possibly play against the winner of the first-round blockbuster between the 15th-seeded Holger Rune from Denmark and Matteo Berrettini from Italy.
On the other side of the draw is Berrettini's compatriot, Jannik Sinner, who will be probably waiting that his countryman eliminates the second seed, who could be his main challenger for the title.
Still, Sinner will be likely looking mostly at his own path and not focus on Alcaraz, starting in the second round against either one of the qualifiers or Tallon Griekspoor from the Netherlands.
Alexander Zverev is the third seed in Cincinnati and also one of the top favorites to win the tournament. However, he will be put to a test early in his tournament, starting against the winner of the match between Karen Khachanov and Francisco Cerundolo.
The fourth-seeded Daniil Medvedev has been waiting for a big title for quite some time, with his last tournament triumph coming, surprisingly, at the 2023 Italian Open in Rome, on his least favorite surface clay.
The Russian player will try to end that title drought in Cincinnati. To do that, he will first need to beat either Mariano Navone or Jiri Lehecka, who is returning after a long injury layoff.
Casper Ruud is the seventh seed at the tournament, but he also got a relatively brutal draw. After a first-round BYE, he can take on Felix Auger-Aliassime already in round two, as the Canadian will start against a qualifier.
One of the most exciting first-round matches for the home crowd will be an all-American clash between the 12th-seeded Ben Shelton and home wild card Reilly Opelka. The full draw for the 2024 Cincinnati Open can be viewed below.
