The 2024 Belgrade Open will be one of the closing tournaments for this season, and the draw for the event has been unveiled.
Running alongside the Moselle Open in Metz, the ATP 250 tournament in the Serbian capital is one of the last two tournaments in 2024. The tournament is held from November 3rd to 9th, and it's a different tournament from the previously held Serbia Open, which was a clay-court event.
The Belgrade Open is held on the hard courts. It also offers the last chance for players fighting for the last ATP Finals spots to qualify for the year-end championships, and the draw reflects that.
However, since Belgrade is much further from Paris than Metz, the last city where players compete, it's natural that most of the players chose to compete at the Moselle Open instead of the Belgrade Open. Still, some chose to travel to the Serbian capital.
Leading the draw is the first-seeded Alex de Minaur. The Australian has never played at the ATP Finals, and right now, he has 3,745 points to his name and sits in the eighth position. However, all the rivals around him will play in these ATP 250 tournaments, so a deep run will be essential for him.
He's actually the only player in the draw that has a hope to qualify for the ATP Finals but none of his rivals will likely care about that. He has a first-round BYE like all the top four seeds, and in the second round, he will have a very difficult draw.
Stan Wawrinka has been playing some inspired tennis lately and doesn't want to talk about his retirement, and Laslo Djere is a talented player who will have the backing of the home crowd. One of these two players will be De Minaur's second-round opponent.
On the opposite side of the draw is the second-seeded Tommy Paul, whose journey into the quarter-finals of the event might be much easier. His second-round opponent will be one of the two qualifiers that will meet in the first round.
Francisco Cerundolo is the third seed in Belgrade, and he will also face an early test. In the second round, the Argentinian player will meet either Roman Safiullin or Fabio Fognini, both of which are players capable of having deep runs.
The fourth seed is Jiri Lehecka. The Czech player will await Alexandre Muller or former Grand Slam champion Marin Cilic in the second round of the 2024 Belgrade Open.
