The 2024 Belgrade Open runs from November 3rd to 9th, and the prize money pot for the event has been released.
There has only been one previous iteration of the Belgrade Open, held on clay in 2021. Home hero Novak Djokovic defeated Alex Molcan in straight sets to secure the title.
It seemed like the tournament may never return to the ATP Tour since the 2021 edition was only given a single-year license during a time when the calendar was disrupted by restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, the Belgrade Open will return as an indoor hardcourt tournament this year. It replaces the Gijon Open on the calendar, which had to be moved for operational reasons.
The tournament in Serbia is one of the two final ATP-250 events of the season. It takes place the week before the ATP Finals in Turin, where Djokovic is the defending champion.
Although the prize money on offer is not as substantial as this week's Six Kings Slam, which will award the winner the largest paycheck in tennis history, there is still a healthy prize money purse of €579,320 to be distributed to the players in the main draw.
The ranking points on offer at the 2024 Belgrade Open could be absolutely pivotal to who qualifies for the ATP Finals. For example, Alex de Minaur, who is on the entry list, still has a chance of qualifying for the year-end tournament.
De Minaur was in a commanding position to qualify until a hip injury sustained at Wimbledon derailed his season. His most recent withdrawal was from the Shanghai Masters, but the 25-year-old is making his comeback at this week's European Open.
The Australian could desperately need the 250 ranking points that will be awarded to the 2024 Belgrade Open champion. He would also have €88,125 added to his bank account for being the best player at the tournament.
This year's Belgrade Open runner-up will receive €51,400 in prize money and 165 points. That is a decent consolation prize for losing the final and could also make the difference in the race for the ATP Finals.
The two losing semifinalists at the 2024 Belgrade Open will obtain €30,220 and 100 ranking points. Federico Delbonis and Andrej Martin were the two defeated semifinalists when the tournament was last held in 2021.
Getting to the quarterfinals can significantly improve the ranking of lower-ranked players. Players who make it that far will receive 50 points and €17,510 in prize money.
The men who lose in the round of 16 are set to receive 25 ranking points and €10,165 in prize money. No points will be awarded to players who lose in the opening round, but €6,215 is still on offer for being in the main draw.
It promises to be a great tournament in Belgrade. Frances Tiafoe, who had a furious meltdown at an umpire at the Shanghai Masters, is one of the other players players on the tournament's very strong entry list.
