Coco Gauff believes fans of the WTA Tour are excited by the prospect of no one dominating women's tennis like Serena Williams did.

Williams bid farewell to tennis after losing in the US Open third round. During her legendary career, she won 23 Grand Slam singles titles and is considered the best female player ever, although Chris Evert questions whether she is the most accomplished player ever.

Iga Swiatek has been the most dominant player in 2022. The Pole went on an incredible 37-match winning streak from February until July when Alize Cornet finally broke the run in the Wimbledon third round.

Although Swiatek's results have been more mixed since, she still won her second Grand Slam of the season at the US Open. After securing the title, the Pole was also surprised with tiramisu at the press conference.

However, it is still too early to confidently predict that Swiatek will become the most dominant figure in women's tennis throughout her career. There are several excellent players, and 18-year-old Gauff will keep improving.

Speaking ahead of the WTA Finals, Gauff discussed how exciting it is to have new faces at the top of the WTA Tour and that women's tennis feels more open now without figures like Serena and Venus Williams constantly at the top.

"The Tour is always evolving, there's always gonna be someone coming up and doing well. Obviously, when Serena and Venus (Williams) were playing they were pretty much dominant players."
"But, I feel like now there's just a lot of new faces which is great because you never know who it is (that is favourite when you start a tournament. In general as a player, I have always felt that any person has a chance to win. But I feel like the fans now believe that there is no one dominant force there and that's what makes it exciting."
