Iga Swiatek is seemingly good to go for
Wimbledon after pulling out of the Bad Homburg Open a few days ago.
Swiatek was playing her only preparation event for Wimbledon in Bad Homburg, but
she pulled out of the event on the day of her semi-final at the WTA 250 tournament.
It was an abrupt move, leaving fans worried that she had picked up an injury at the event. Luckily, it was not an injury, but an illness that forced the Polish player to withdraw from the tournament in Bad Homburg.
Swiatek had a fever the day before, which ultimately forced her to abandon plans of playing, especially with Wimbledon a few days away. She spoke about what happened back in Germany ahead of her Wimbledon return.
"I had a really bad night. We did with my conditioning coach measurements in the morning. They didn't really look good cuz I barely slept. I had a stomachache but I dunno if there was something wrong or not. Later in the day I felt ok, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be fine."
Last year's experience at Wimbledon didn't go that well for Swiatek, who arrived as the undisputed number one with a long winning streak. However, she also arrived with a clear lack of experience when it comes to grass tennis.
She is a Wimbledon girls' champion, but playing in the professionals is something very different, as she faced players who had five times as the matches as she has on grass.
"Last year, I feel like we've done a pretty good job with my coach in terms of my touch and getting back slices and also playing slice sometimes. I feel like this time [is] the first year where I could just focus on practicing, actually learning a lot. So hopefully I'm going to be able to use that in my matches."
