Iga Swiatek didn’t play at the Miami Open this year due to an injury, but she might be coming back soon, as she hinted at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart as her likely comeback event.
Swiatek is not a player who spends a lot of time away from the court unless she has to, and that was the case during the Miami Open this year. The WTA World No. 1 player participated in Indian Wells and played well until the semi-final, which she lost to Elena Rybakina easily in two sets.
After the match, Swiatek admitted there was an injury that was bothering her, as she evidently didn’t play close to her best. That injury would ultimately keep her away from the Miami Open, where she was supposed to be the defending champion, having won the event in 2022.
Swiatek's comeback, at least per her most recent hint, should happen at the WTA 500 event in Stuttgart, where she’s played in the past. The hint was dropped in a conversation with Mikaela Shiffrin, an incredibly successful skier who will be in Europe during the same time period.
Swiatek told her that she will be in Germany, so they will be pretty close, as Shiffrin is set to compete in Austria at that time.
"I will be in Germany pretty soon, so we will be pretty close to each other."
Shiffrin quickly deduced what Swiatek was hinting at and expressed excitement about watching her comeback in Stuttgart, which essentially confirms that the Pole plans to play in the German city.
"Hope your recovery continues well and I can't wait to watch you in Stuttgart, Iga!"
Swiatek has played in Stuttgart in the past, having won the event last year, and she’s clearly not in favor of missing out on the chance to defend her trophy like she had to in Miami.
