Cameron Norrie has written his name in British tennis history by securing the LTA Men's Singles Player of the Year Award for his 2022 season.

Norrie didn’t emerge in the sport as a huge talent, even though there were times when he showed that he had potential. It was around 2019 that he started to make some moves on the ATP Tour.

He would quickly rise through the rankings, getting to number 12 in 2021. Then, last year, he made it all the way to number eight in the rankings, and it was that iconic 2022 season for which he got the LTA Men's Singles Player of the Year Award.

Norrie won 52 matches last year, which, interestingly enough, isn’t his career high because that was in 2021 when he won 56 matches. He did, however, make four finals, winning two of those.

He also had a deep run at the Wimbledon Championships, which is the home Grand Slam for British players, losing in the semi-final against Novak Djokovic.

The Brit also had a couple of other really solid results, so while he might not have won the most matches in 2022, it was by far the best season he’s ever had on Tour, and it’s why he was recognized by the LTA.

That Wimbledon run, in particular, likely factored into this decision because not only did he make the semi-final without too many issues, but he also won a set against Djokovic, and it was the first set of that match.

For about an hour, there was a palpable dream of a British finalist at Wimbledon. He didn’t get it, but winning this award ensures that his 2022 season will be remembered in British tennis because, after Andy Murray, he certainly has proven himself to be the best British tennis player that has emerged in recent times.

Norrie was, of course, proud to be named the British Men's Singles Player of the Year after having an incredibly successful season.

"The last year was quite the run for me, getting into the semi-final at Wimbledon - after winning Delray Beach and Lyon – was a big achievement in my career, and I'm looking forward to building on those performances as I continue into this year and beyond. Thanks to all the fans for their support."
