As the tennis world slowly bids farewell to Andy Murray, Serena Williams paid tribute to the legendary Brit with a very nice video.
Williams and Murray go back a long way because they've been friendly for many years and even played mixed doubles together. They've always admired each other, and Murray has called Williams an inspiration many times.
A self-declared feminist, Murray has no shortage of admirers on the WTA Tour who have always admired his outspoken nature and advocacy for women in tennis and women's sports in general.
Williams referenced that in her video posted on X, in which she paid tribute to Murray, who played his last doubles match at Wimbledon on Thursday evening, as he slowly says goodbye to the sport he left a huge mark on.
"Congratulations to you, Andy Murray, on such an incredible career. I have to say, I've always enjoyed watching you, one of the main reasons cause you were one of the few players who would be more angry than me on a court, which is a hard thing to do. You may have an attitude like many, let's just say."
"To me, it was the most exciting thing to watch, and I had the pleasure of playing mixed doubles by your side, which was such a fantastic experience. To do that at Wimbledon nonetheless, and it was really one of the highlights of my life."
Murray hasn't yet retired from the sport, at least not fully, but he confirmed after his most recent match at Wimbledon that he won't be back to playing in singles. He's got a mixed doubles match lined up at Wimbledon, and we'll see if that will be all or if he'll go out at some other event. As for Williams, she certainly didn't hold back any words during the two-minute video.
"I'm just grateful that I had that experience, and also hold a special place in my heart for you because you always speak out so much for women and everything that women deserve. You were the leader in that, and the things you spoke about, the things you said about myself and Venus and how we were inspiring to you, it really went such a long way in my heart."
"I will always be grateful for that—the support you gave myself, the support you gave women, and the excitement you brought to tennis. I feel like watching you win Wimbledon, and the US Open and those gold medals were so exciting, and I just truly enjoyed it. I've always been such a fan, and I will be cheering for you in whatever you decide to do next. Congratulations on such an amazing career."
