Sofia Kenin vs Marie Bouzkova: 2024 Qatar Open Doha - Preview & Prediction

by Zachary Wimer

Sofia Kenin will hope to get back to winning ways as she's facing Marie Bouzkova, who has been struggling a lot lately in the first round of the 2024 Qatar Open.

Kenin won a Grand Slam in her career, but things have been going badly ever since then. Injuries are mostly to blame because they kept her away from the court for a long period, making it very hard to play regularly.

She's done that lately and, at times, looked pretty good, but it's been a struggle for the most part. Still, lately, Kenin hasn't been able to win much on the tennis courts.

Luckily for her, the draw at the WTA 1000 event in Doha gave her a player who has struggled with her tennis equally, though her style is well suited to give the American plenty of trouble.

Head-to-head:

Kenin and Bouzkova played twice so far. One of those matches was on the ITF Tour many years ago, and the American won that one. The only one who played on the WTA Tour came last year in Dubai, so the conditions were similar to this one, and Bouzkova was able to win that one pretty easily.

There is a pretty decent chance that the Czech player will do that again, but several things will need to go well for her.

Prediction:

Chiefly, it's going to be playing well. She kind of did last week against Emma Raducanu but ultimately didn't have enough to outlast the Brit. Kenin could struggle with her defensive style of play, especially if she doesn't find a consistent rhythm herself.

It's been somewhat of a struggle lately, and I'm not sure the American will find it here. Somehow, it seems to me like she's trending in the wrong direction. The opposite is true for Bouzkova.

Prediction: Marie Bouzkova to win in three sets.
