Sofia Kenin is now only one match away from qualifying for the main draw of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.

The American has been attempting to restart her career for quite some time now, and the third Grand Slam of the season presented Kenin with another opportunity to show her qualities that got her to a major title three years ago.

The 2020 Australian Open champion has had a challenging season, as she hasn't been able to produce a consistent level. She had been out of action for much of the 2022 season due to injury, and even though she has returned to the courts, it's clear the American still lacks confidence.

Still, she scored an upset win over World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka in Rome a few months ago, showing that she can still beat the best players on the WTA Tour.

In her first qualifying match for Wimbledon, Kenin defeated fellow American, Irina Falconi, in straight sets. It was a relatively simple win on the grass court, as Kenin dominated in both sets, winning the match 6-3, 6-2 to reach the second round of the qualifying.

Kenin's second qualifying match was against Japan's Moyuka Uchijima. It was a match in which she once again proved to be a much better player, as she won the match comfortably, 6-0, 6-3.

It was just a superb performance from the 23rd seed in the qualifying, as she started it on a seven-game winning streak, and even though her opponent was able to end it, her lead was big enough to win the match in two simple sets.

Now, Kenin is one step away from making her return to the Wimbledon main draw after missing the event last year. In the final match of the qualifying, she will take on the ninth-seeded fellow American, Taylor Townsend, with only one place for a qualifier reserved for either of these two players.
