Emma Raducanu will get a lot of attention at Wimbledon this year, but Cameron Norrie believes last year's US Open winner is capable of handling it.
In truth, the 19-year-old has struggled a lot this season. Raducanu is yet to reach a single semifinal this year. Her best run so far was in Stuttgart, where she was beaten by the world No. 1 in the quarterfinal.
Despite this, that will not stop the British public from having high expectations for Raducanu. They will hope that she can become inspired and recapture her form from that incredible run in New York on home soil.
Norrie is someone who does have faith in her fellow British player. He feels Raducanu needs to embrace the attention by enjoying her tennis on a surface that Norrie thinks suits her well.
“She needs to keep her head down, keep enjoying the tennis, I’m sure she is looking forward to the grass. I think it is one of her best surfaces as well. It will be a lot of fun. At 19, I was doing different stuff than she is now. She is having to deal with a lot more pressurised situations and bigger moments than I was at the same age."
Norrie continued to compare Raducanu favourably to himself in further remarks. He praised the US Open champion for how mature she is, and feels that her good run to the fourth-round of Wimbledon last year could help her as well, proving she can play well in front of home fans.
"I was in college enjoying myself and living a more normal life. She is very mature, very well spoken and hopefully she can let her tennis do the talking at Wimbledon. She played great there last year. Hopefully she can use the home crowd to her advantage – people will be loving her.”
