Simona Halep has already made changes to her team this year, but the process has now gone further after the Romanian split with her longtime manager.
The former world No. 1 generated attention in April when she announced her coaching partnership with Patrick Mouratoglou, who has worked with Serena Williams for the last ten years.
Unfortunately, that high-profile move has not yet led to improved results for the two-time Grand Slam champion. Her most recent setback was a second round French Open defeat to Qinwen Zheng.
It turns out that the process of change is continuing. This is after it was confirmed that Halep's manager of the last 14 years Virginia Ruzici will be stepping away from the role.
Ruzici has been part of her team for a very long time, meaning the news will undoubtedly come as a shock to many tennis fans. Halep announced the news on Instagram and paid tribute to Ruzici.
"It’s been a fantastic journey. I would like to thank Virginia Ruzici for her endless dedication to me not only as a player, but as a close friend. It has been an amazing 14 years of experience together and a true delight to work with her. I will forever value our friendship."
It has also been confirmed that Halep will sign with Westport Agency. They put out a statement about the news, unsurprisingly sounding very excited about the development.
"Our biggest welcome to Wesport two-time Grand Slam Champion Simona Halep.Simona is one of the biggest global stars in sport and was ranked world number one for 64 weeks between 2017-2019. She has 23 WTA tour titles - so far."
Some Halep fans may worry that these changes could be detrimental to her. Only time will tell will answer that. Regardless, a fascinating few months await for the Romanian.
