Serena Williams will compete at the 2022 Canadian Open in Toronto in an attempt to prepare for the US Open.
Despite a very good performance, Williams lost already in the first round of the Wimbledon Championships in her attempt to win the 24th Grand Slam title, and she will try again at the US Open.
The legendary American player is chasing her 24th Grand Slam title to equal Margaret Court's record, and it seems that her preparation for the 2022 US Open will start in Toronto as she signed up for the WTA 1000 event using her special (protected) ranking.
When asked about her plans following the loss in SW19, the experienced American didn't give many clues to the reporters.
"I am just playing for right now. I see how I feel and go from there. Who knows where I will pop up."
Yet, Williams admitted that if there should be someplace where she would like to win the 24th Grand Slam, it would be in Flushing Meadows.
"The US Open was the place where I won my first Slam. It’s super special. There’s definitely a lot of motivation to get better and play at home."
Now, it seems very probable that the 40-year-old American will compete at the 2022 US Open as she will start her preparation in Toronto. WTA 1000 event welcomes the best players every year and in 2013, it was Serena Williams who lifted the trophy without losing a set.
She will be hoping to win some matches also this year, but as she suggested to journalists at Wimbledon, she doesn't enter tournaments just to reach some round; she's there to win them. Despite not playing for so long, Serena Williams is a favorite anywhere she appears, just because of what she has been able to achieve in her tennis career.
