Emma Raducanu will play at the Miami Open next month after getting a wild card for the event, and so will Venus Williams.
The 2024 Miami Open is the second leg of the famous Sunshine Double that is traditionally played throughout March. The events are combined ATP and WTA 1000 tournaments, so fans get a celebration of tennis with both men and women attending and playing at the same time.
The events are hugely popular and draw great crowds, especially the Indian Wells Open, which is popularly known as the Fifth Grand Slam. Raducanu doesn't have a good enough ranking to enter the events directly, but she won't need to play the qualifiers.
Raducanu got a wild card into the event, as she's a big name who will draw a crowd despite not playing the best tennis so far this season. She had hoped to gain enough points to improve her ranking but, so far, has fallen short of that goal.
Another big name got a wild card into the event, and it's veteran Venus Williams. She hasn't played at all this year but teased her long-awaited comeback to tennis multiple times on social media.
Williams has looked pretty well the last few times she played, but her age obviously makes it pretty hard to play for a long time without injury. Any time she plays a few matches, she picks up another injury, but there is will to continue, so for now, we're going to be seeing her on the courts again.
Caroline Wozniacki and Kei Nishikori are the other two players who got the wild card for the Miami Open, making the tournament even more interesting for fans.
The second of the two events of the Sunshine Double begins on March 17th, 2024, so make sure to mark your calendars.
