Raducanu Set To Drop To British No. 3 Spot After Historic Week

Emma Raducanu lost the British No. 1 spot recently on the WTA Tour, and now, she lost also the spot of the second highest-ranked Brit.

Only a couple of weeks ago, Katie Boulter overtook Raducanu as the British No. 1, as the 2021 US Open champion recovers from a triple surgery. In the meantime, Raducanu is offering tennis lessons for $2,000, while donating all the proceeds to the LTA's Youth Programme.

And it seems that LTA will be using that money really well as the British women's tennis has been on a rise recently, or at least during the historic week at the 2023 Nottingham Open which saw four British women in the quarterfinals of the WTA event for the first time in history.

Moreover, two British players will meet in the WTA final for the first time since 1977, and thanks to that, Jodie Burrage is another player that will skip over Raducanu in the WTA Rankings when they are released again on Monday.

Boulter, who had previously made it to the semifinals of the lower-tier event in Surbiton, earned enough points to claim the British No. 1 spot. Her successful performance in Nottingham will see her rise to at least 97th place in the rankings, or even as high as 77th if she wins the final.

Meanwhile, Burrage is set to rise to at least 108th place, or 90th if she wins, thus claiming the British No. 2 spot and pushing Raducanu down to No. 3. Despite the recent setbacks for Raducanu, the future of British tennis appears bright.

The impressive performances of Boulter and Burrage, along with the potential of other players such as Harriet Dart and Katie Swan, suggest a resurgence of talent in British women's tennis. Raducanu herself is reportedly planning a return to the court in June at a Chinese exhibition event, so there may yet be more changes in the British rankings in the coming weeks.
