Emma Raducanu faced Alisson Van Uytvanck in the first round of her 2022 Wimbledon campaign and she did really well.
Alisson Van Uytvanck is one of the grass-court specialists as the world no. 46 played 14 matches on grass prior to the third Grand Slam of the season and won 12 of them, capturing two grass-court titles. On the other hand, Emma Raducanu was coming back from an injury that she picked up in Nottingham.
In the first two games of the first sets, both players had a few breakpoints but both managed to hold their service games and fans on the Centre Court in the All England Club didn't see break until the seventh game. Then, both players broke each other three times in a row before Raducanu won the first set 6-4.
In the second set, it was the home-crowd favourite who got broken first, but she broke her opponent twice in the remainder of the set to win the match 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 42 minutes. After the match, she said:
"Thank you for everyone who's been here supporting, especially through the tough times. I know Alisson is extremely tricky opponent. I played her last summer and it's extremely tricky to neutralise her serve. But I'm just happy to stay another day."— Emma Raducanu
