Caroline Garcia has shared her frustration after losing the Monterrey Open final against Donna Vekic yesterday.

Garcia lost the first set before getting back into the contest by winning the second. However, the French player eventually lost the final set 7-5 to Vekic. Despite the defeat, Garcia was initially upbeat and shared her positivity about performing so well in Monterrey.

"Runner up in Monterrey @abiertognpseguros This week was an inspirational week on and off court. Really enjoyed every minute of it. Loved the Mexican positives vibes."

Garcia wrote on Instagram

Once Garcia had time to reflect on the loss, she started to reveal her frustrations on social media. The 2022 WTA Finals champion went back on Instagram later to explain her fatigue and loss of sleep over the final defeat against Vekic.

"Terribly tired, physically and mentally, leaving to the airport in 6h but I can’t fall asleep, I am “afraid” to go to sleep. My mind is going crazy.”

In addition, the 29-year-old shared further details about exactly what was keeping her up following the loss.

"Every time I switch off the lights and put my head on the pillow, I can rewatch my match - that serve catching the lines on break point or that easy forehand missed or that bad choice …Tennis can drive you crazy a little bit.”

The Monterrey final disappointment followed an up-down 2023 season so far for Garcia.

She reached the Australian Open fourth round in January and lost the Lyon Open final to Alycia Parks in February. Then the 29-yard-old departed the Qatar Open at the quarter-final stage and crashed out of the Dubai Tennis Championship in the first round.

However, the recent posts may show that Garcia's preparations could be affected ahead of the Indian Wells tournament, which starts this week.
