WTA's inactive star Garbine Muguruza received an award during a prize-giving ceremony called Women In Sport in her native Spain.

The Women In Sport Awards usually recognizes the work and dedication of sportswomen in Spain and the promoters who use their platforms to create awareness of the role of women in sports. It is held annually converging a pool of talent from many sports.

Muguruza arrived at the third edition of the Women In Sport Awards in Barcelona in a sparkling halter-neck red gown during the night ceremony. She shared a photo dump on her Instagram of her appearance at the ceremony, which also included a sharp picture with her trophy.

Muguruza, who celebrated her 30th birthday less than two weeks ago, was honored with the "Sports Talent Award" on a night when Barcelona women's footballer Aitana Bonmati, boxer Joana Pastrana, and snowboarder Queralt Castellet also received their share of the spoils.

The Spanish tennis player has been on a sabbatical that is nearing a year. She has only played four matches in 2023, without winning one, before announcing her indefinite break from tennis. During her time away from the sport, Muguruza parted ways with her coach Conchita Martinez.

Under Martinez's tutelage, she enjoyed her most productive years on the court, winning Wimbledon in 2017, and the WTA Finals in 2021. Her resurgence two seasons ago landed her Spanish coach the WTA Coach of the Year award.

Sadly for Muguruza, she hasn't managed to hit that peak spell again. And the now 30-year-old made a shocking revelation that she "has no intention" of returning to the tour. She made the surprise claim that tennis has no place in her daily routine.

The news is obviously a massive dagger to the heart for Muguruza's fans who have been patiently waiting for her comeback. The Venezuelan-born Spaniard is engaged to her longtime boyfriend Arthur Borges, with a wedding planned for next summer in Spain.
