Mirra Andreeva vs Victoria Azarenka: 2024 Roland Garros - Preview & Prediction

by Zachary Wimer

Mirra Andreeva returned to Roland Garros with a win, and she'll hope to keep it going against veteran Victoria Azarenka.

The Belarusian has so much experience that she simply knows what to do at all times on the tennis court. This doesn't mean that she wins all of her matches, but she certainly knows how to win against every player.

That's the key because if you know how then you only need to deliver on the court. Azarenka showed all of that against former Roland Garros semi-finalist Nadia Podoroska, beating her 6-1, 6-0 in the opening round

That was a good warning for Andreeva, who did well by winning her first match, but she certainly wasn't as dominant as Azarenka, winning against Emina Bektas 6-2, 6-3.

Azarenka and Andreeva never played against each other on the WTA Tour. It might actually favor the teenager a little bit, but she'll face some trouble against the Belarusian due to the way she plays.

Azarenka has had a better year overall, but the 17-year-old is the more natural fit on clay, as she proved multiple times in Madrid. She's really good at clay, but her angles can cause a lot of trouble.

It's going to be an interesting match, but Azarenka is probably the player to watch here. If she brings her peak game with her tremendous counter-punching Andreeva might be in trouble.

Azarenka could be favored in this match, even though she's not on the paper. The combination of her experience and the type of year she's had will be enough to overcome the teenager, who is having a bit slower year after surprising everybody last year.

Prediction: Victoria Azarenka to win in two sets.
