Elena Ryabkina will contest the
Miami Open semi-final after winning her 12th consecutive match, beating Martina Trevisan.
Rybakina has been playing superb tennis all year long, and she's already up to 20 wins this season. A good part of those came this week in Miami and last week in Indian Wells, with her now winning 12 matches in a row.
A chance to complete the Sunshine Double is at stake for Rybakina, and it's something that hasn't been done that many times in the past. Still, the Kazakhstani player doesn't feel any pressure.
"For sure, I don't have any pressure. I know that it's very difficult and not many players did it. Plus, I was match point down the other match, so I really don't think so far in the draw."
Rybakina is keeping a very balanced attitude, and it's been something she's done plenty of times in the past. She didn't celebrate winning Wimbledon in some flashy way, so remaining calm is kind of what she does.
Still, she underlined the need to approach things match by match and not think too far ahead because it could distract her.
"I just need to focus match by match, and I have a tough opponent. Of course, it would be amazing to achieve something like that, but it's still far away."
Her goal to become number one in the world was publicized recently, and she's been backing it up on the court. She has four defeats this year, but only three happened on the court as she retired once.
Three of those defeats came in January, so she only technically lost once in the past two months. Whether somebody stops her in Miami remains to be seen, but it doesn't seem likely
considering her level in Miami and the way it improved with every match.
