Former coach of Simona Halep, Darren Cahill has described her as an extraordinary person with whom he made tennis history.
Cahill and Halep worked together for six years splitting in 2021. The pairing achieved many great things together as Halep won two grand slams under him and spent time as the world number one. Since then, Cahill has moved on to coach Jannik Sinner, but he still holds Halep in high regard as one of the first to come out in her support following her suspension.
According to Cahill there was no chance Halep was cheating recalling her maniacal approach to taking any supplement or any meal in order to avoid testing positive for something, even by chance.
With Simona Halep I lived the best moments of my career and I had my greatest joy. She is an extraordinary person; sometimes, she was her own worst enemy. At that time, she had a lot of pressure on her back as her country, Romania, expected to see her as no. 1.
She's been absent from tennis since the US Open after her positive test for a banned substance became public. It's been a battle to clear her name since then and Cahill has spoken out in her favour quite a few times. He's also shared some updates at times revealing early this year that Halep has a hearing in March.
There hasn't been much news about that since then, but some rumours suggested that Halep could identify how the banned substance entered her body and was hoping to return to tennis sooner rather than later.
As for Cahill, he's leading Jannik Sinner with a lot of precision improving his play steadily. He's been on a tear recently and looks very formidable heading into the clay season where he'll certainly have things to say.
