Iga Swiatek started her 2024 Australian Open campaign with a great win against a tough player, and she'll need something similar in round two again as she's facing Danielle Collins.

Collins is a fascinating player who reached a really high level at times. She's also dealt with a lot of injuries, which kind of prevented her from reaching her true potential, which is generally regarded as a regular Top 10 level on the WTA Tour.

One of her peaks came in Australia two years ago when she made it to the final, losing to Ashleigh Barty 3-6 6-7(2). One of her wins that year in Melbourne was against Iga Swiatek, and it came in the semi-final 6-4 6-1. It was one of those last losses the Pole had before taking the Tour by storm.

The 2024 version of Swiatek is still unbeaten with a 6-0 record in singles and with a really strong win over former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin 7-6(2) 6-2 in the bag, and she will want to achieve the same result against another American.

Head-to-head:

Collins and Swiatek played a couple of times already and quite recently, too. It's 4-1 for Swiatek in H2H, as the match in Melbourne two years ago was the only one Collins won. The rest went the Pole's way, and quite easily so, as she has two wins, where she only lost one game.

Collins struggles a great deal with Swiatek's baseline consistency, especially if she has one of her 'off' days. We'll have to wait and see what happens, but generally, it's not a matchup that Collins is likely to win. Her best can do some damage, but we haven't seen that in a while.

Prediction:

The main way Collins beat Swiatek two years ago was the serve. The American was just serving on an incredible level, which helped her avoid long rallies. Swiatek has a clear advantage in rallies, and unless Collins finds his serve, this one will be quick.

Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in two sets.
