Iga Swiatek has been nominated for the UN Women's Rise and Raise Others award due to her humanitarian efforts.
Iga Swiatek has worked on several humanitarian initiatives during the course of her career. Due to World Mental Health Day, the three-time Grand Slam champion recently donated her prize money after placing second in Ostrava to Polish non-profit organizations.
"I really wanted to play well here to have a big amount of money to donate and I'm pretty happy that I could do that- I really want to spread awareness and let people know that they can use the help if they need it, or help others if they have resources. I'm pretty happy to use my position that way." said Swiatek after the Ostrava Open.
She has also auctioned off some of her gear to raise money for various funds and tagged a huge charity tennis event in Poland to benefit the victims of the War in Ukraine.
"For months I have been working with my team on a charity initiative for Ukraine to support those who suffer because of the war. There will also be a special guest representing Ukraine — former (Ukraine) football player Andriy Shevchenko."
In a category of good health and wellbeing, world number 1 was nominated for engaging in social initiatives with children and mental health in Poland.
She is joined by Sarahi Espinoza Salamanca from the United States, Regina Markus from Brazil and Sarah Van Vooren from Nepal.
