Emma Raducanu has teamed up with Andy Murray’s former fitness
coach Jez Green after splitting with coach Dmitry Tursunov.
Former world No. 20 Tursunov only joined Raducanu’s coaching
team in July after the player parted ways with previous coach Torben Beltz in
April.
The Russian was always only working with the former
US Open champion on a ‘trial’ basis, with The Times reporting it was Tursunov who chose
to not extend the partnership into the new season in order to take up a
position with a yet unnamed rival player.
Raducanu’s link-up with Green means the 19-year-old is
working with her FIFTH coach in 16 months as she prepares for the 2023 tennis
year and looks to recapture the form that took her to the title at Flushing
Meadows.
The Brit recently ended her WTA Tour season early because of
a right wrist injury and has been hampered throughout 2022 with injury, form
and the pressures that come with being a teenage Grand Slam champ.
Raducanu has slipped to no. 68 in the WTA rankings from her
career high of No.10 in July - a consequence of losing in the first round in New
York when defending her shock 2021 title - and has a losing win/loss record for
the year, winning 17 matches against 19 losses.
Green worked with Murray between 2007 – 2014 and is credited
with turning the Scot into a player that could live with the demands needed to
compete with greats Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
He has also worked Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem and it is
hoped he can help Raducanu reduce the niggling injury issues which have
disrupted her season.
It is understood that Raducanu has enlisted Green for the
remainder of 2022, with an option to continue their arrangement into next year.
