The 2022 Transylvania Open in Cluj-Napoca featured a match that included also 2014 Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard, who was forced to retire due to an injury.

After her retirement, she gave her reasons for doing so on social media. Bouchard took a wildcard entrance into the Transylvania Open with the hopes of accruing extra playing time. It did not turn out as expected, though, as she was forced to forfeit her opening match against the second-seeded Anhelina Kalinina.

"I tweaked my hip in practice on Saturday and tried everything to be ready for my match Tuesday. As the match went on it got worse and my movement was affected. Out of caution, I felt like the right decision was to retire," Bouchard wrote.

"The doctors have told me that with a few days of rest and treatment I should be good to go in Guadalajara. I am so grateful to the entire team in Cluj for their hospitality this week," Bouchard concluded.
