Elena Rybakina won the 2022 Wimbledon, but because she didn't receive the points that go along with it, she doesn't really feel like a Wimbledon champion.

Rybakina defeated Ons Jabeur in the Wimbledon final to claim the title, but the Kazakhstani player did not receive the 2000 points that come with it. Instead, Rybakina took home the record prize money that was offered this year.

With those points, she might have advanced in the WTA Rankings and had easier draws for the remainder of the season.

“I feel like I'm not a Wimbledon champion. The point situation, we cannot change, but … it's not fair. Many players are paying for these decisions.” said Rybakina ahead of the US Open.

The points scenario did not just affect Rybakina; for her, it made the event less satisfying. Her aim was to win Wimbledon, but she had never experienced the joy of victory.

“It was always my dream to win Wimbledon and I did not get the winning feeling."

She will play a qualifer in round one of the US Open.
